The Golden Slipper and Crystal Lily

Crystal Lily was a worthy winner of the Golden Slipper last weekend. She started the race at around the 6/1 mark and received solid support without being backed off the map. To hold the Golden Slipper on Easter Saturday was a gamble in itself but it certainly paid off with a great day of racing.
The other great race on the weekend was the running of the BMW. Littorio caused an upset as the much fancied Theseo failed to run out the distance. It might be that Theseo is the best horse in the country up to 2000 meters but I am far from convinced the horse can go much further than that.

The Randwick Carnival has now been pushed back a few weeks which isn’t going to hurt the industry and only prolongs the Autumn Carnival. This Saturday will see the running of the Australian Derby which will sort out the really classy three-year-old colts. Some great horses have won this race over the years and it looks as if this time it could be a shootout between Zabrasive and Rock Classic.

The Produce Stakes will see the two-year-old step up to 1400 meters and this looks to be another two horse affair which will see More Strawberries start a short favourite just in front of Hinchinbrook. It will be one of the best days of racing for the year and one surely not to be missed.

The Sydney Cup and the Metropolitan are also both just around the corner and will be run on 17 April, so there is plenty of Group 1 racing coming your way over the next few weeks.
