Canadian golfer Mike Weir recaptures some of his old form to finish just behind the leaders in the 2009 US Open at Bethpage Black.
39 Year old Ontarian Mike Weir defied the odds showed that he is returning to his best form with his fantastic effort in the US open at Bethpage Black. He and fellow Canadian Stephen Ames would both finish the tournament at a very credible 2 over par. Even though Weir wasn’t to win the tournament, the Canadian ‘leftie’ set the early pace and led for most of the first two rounds. He kept on making birdies when everyone else was shooting bogies and it was unfortunate that is fell away at the business end of the tournament. One of the toughest courses in the Open’s history became even more difficult due to the driving rain and constant breaks in play.
Weir turned pro in 1992 after studying Recreation Management at Brigham Young University. His first PGA tour win came in 1999 but it was in 2003 when Weir would have the biggest win in Canadian Golfing history when he won the US Masters at Augusta Georgia. In 2003 Weir would also climb as high as number 3 in the world the Official World Golf Rankings. It has been a hard few years for Weir who has struggled to find his best form. We can only hope that he continues to regain his best form and put four rounds together.
