Canadian Heroes Forced Resignations

Glenn Healy handed in his resignation this week claiming he couldn’t continue in the position after Executive Director Ian Penny had criticized Canadian legends Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux. The only positive is that the players will soon be back on the ice and 888sport will be there to offer all Canadian online betters the best NHL service on the internet.

Glenn Healy has resigned as Director of Players Affairs of the NHLPA claiming that his credibility has been undermined by comments made by Executive Director Ian Penny and in an internal report. In the letter of resignation Healy claimed that Penny had openly disagreed with Healy’s defence of Canadian legends like Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux. Healy claimed these players were instrumental in helping the Player’s Association stand on its own and give much needed support to players who needed help in making the right decisions.

“I cannot sit back and continue to perform my duties when my Players Association co-workers unjustifiably impugn my credibility in front of the players I represent and fire shots against Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, two of the greatest players in the game, who have benefited every player in the this Players’ Association.”

Ian Penny hasn’t taken long to deny Healy’s assertions saying that he has never been critical of either Gretzky or Lemieux. Penny is the fourth person acting as NHLPA Executive Director in the last four years after Bob Goodenow, Ted Saskin and Paul Kelly, which shows that the position is one of the hardest in hockey today.

This is further proof that the NHLPA is on very shaky ground and the NHL may well have to step in to try and mend another messy situation that certainly doesn’t do anything good for the game.

The only bright note for Canadian lovers of hockey betting is that the new season is fast approaching. Thankfully 888sport is the one place that we can rely on when it comes to hockey betting and is surely the best place for all Canadian betters to get reliable internet odds on all aspects of our national sport.
