A teenage phenom with AIK, Alexander Isak has become one of the best strikers in world football. After a disappointing stint with Borussia Dortmund, the Swedish international had a mixed few seasons in La Liga with Real Sociedad.
A move to Newcastle followed after the club’s controversial takeover. Isak hadn’t lived up to his early career hype in Germany or Spain, but he has quickly become a star at St. James’ Park. Adored in the northeast, Isak has inevitably been linked with a move away.
Among the favourites for the Golden Boot in Premier League odds, Isak’s availability has a major impact on Newcastle’s football betting markets after he missed a chunk of his first Magpies campaign through injury.

How Much Is Alexander Isak Worth?
Alexander Isak’s net worth is not a publicly available figure, unlike many of his Premier League peers. We would estimate Isak’s net worth is between £5 million and £10 million considering the sizeable earnings he has already amassed throughout his career.
His profile is increasing by the week. Endorsements are bound come flooding into his agent’s inbox in the years to come, giving him ample opportunity to bolster his net worth.
Like many footballers, Isak is also likely to investment money away from football to secure his long-term future.
Salary
Alexander Isak has a weekly wage of £120,000 at Newcastle, according to Spotrac.
This is tied for the 82nd-largest salary in the Premier League along with Aaron Ramsdale, Cody Gakpo, and several other big names.
Several of Isak’s teammates, including Joelinton, are on more money. There are 22 forwards in the Premier League with a higher salary, including Danny Ings, Jamie Vardy and Timo Werner.
It’s safe to say Isak is a lot better than the being the 23rd-best striker in the Premier League. He’s clearly underpaid at the moment and will be looking to address that in the coming months.
Contract
Alexander Isak’s contract expires at the end of the 2027-28 season. Newcastle have a team-friendly contract in place at the moment, but will be desperate to extend Isak’s deal before he gets into the final two years of the pact.
Isak should be in line for a massive pay rise whether he stays with Newcastle or forces a move elsewhere.
Mohamed Salah is on £365,000 per week at Liverpool, and Erling Haaland is on £400,000 at Manchester City. While Isak is unlikely to get to that level, he should be eyeing a contract north of £200,000 per week.
In October 2024, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe discussed Isak’s contract situation, as reported by the BBC.
"That's a slightly more complex situation. Regarding contracts, I'm not involved in those discussions day to day.
"With Alex, he's got a long contract anyway at the football club and we have to be really careful with our spending due to profit and sustainability rules (PSR). It's not a clear-cut situation.
"We of course love him [Isak] and are desperate for him to stay at Newcastle for many years and score loads of goals for us. I don't see a short-term issue with his contract."
Injury
After scoring and being named man of the match on his Newcastle debut against Liverpool, Alexander Isak suffered a hamstring injury in September 2022. He missed 19 games for club and country across a 106-day period.
This issue disrupted Isak’s first season with Newcastle and represents the longest injury absence of his blossoming career.
He did, however, miss 12 matches through groin issues in 2023-24 and missed seven fixtures due to a broken toe in September and October of 2024.
Age
Alexander Isak was born on 21st September 1999. He was only 15 years old when he made his senior debut for AIK and scored his first goal for the club as a 16-year-old.
Transfer
Newcastle signed Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad for a fee of £63 million in August 2022.
It was a club-record fee for Newcastle. At the time of writing, only 23 Premier League transfers have carried a larger fee.
When the deal was announced, Isak said, "It was a big, big decision for me but it is a decision I am really happy with.
"It is a great, historical club that I think anyone would like to play for, with amazing fans. They were a big part of why I came here - and also the club's project, which is one that I really believe in.
"You always want to go into a team and know how they play. I think Newcastle play very attractive football and I want to be a part of that."
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was excited to add such a talented player to his squad.
"I'm very excited that Alexander has chosen to join us. He is an outstanding talent who is capable of making a big contribution to the team.
"He is technically very good, with a mix of attributes that will complement us, but he is also at a great age to grow with this club.
"I want to thank the club's owners and transfer committee for bringing Alexander to Newcastle. We are all delighted to have him on board."
Arsenal Rumours
Stellar performances since signing for Newcastle have seen Alexander Isak linked with numerous clubs.
Arsenal are the most frequently reported suitors as they look for a long-term number nine following the shortcomings of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.
How serious these links are remains to be seen. There’s no question Isak would be a massive upgrade for the Gunners, and former Arsenal star Paul Merson even thinks he would be a better fit than Erling Haaland in north London.
“If I was Arsenal and I had the money, I would go and buy Alexander Isak. I would break the bank for him.
“I think he is the best of the best. I think he takes Arsenal to another level. I am looking at the all-round picture and next season as well. I think that if they can get hold of Isak, who I think is the best in the business at the moment, I think that will be a massive coup for Arsenal.
“The way Arsenal play, I would have to go with Alexander Isak [over Erling Haaland].”
Eddie Howe is unbothered by the rumours, however, and insists it’s part of the job.
“Maybe in my early days that would have left more of an impression but when you're in my position, you ignore it and it's irrelevant. There'll be so much talk and you can't control it so you don't even try.”
