David Moyes Net Worth – How Much Does He Earn?

After seven years in the West Ham dug-out, traversing two different spells, David Moyes is seeking a fresh challenge this summer after the club took the decision not to renew his contract.

A string of poor results has led to his imminent departure though the manager can justifiably be proud of landing another top ten finish for the Hammers.

Indeed, it would take a harsh critic to claim that Moyes’ tenure in East London has not been a success overall, with relegation staved off against the Premier League odds in 2019, and a European honour secured in 2023, from winning the Europa Conference League. That was West Ham’s first major trophy in 43 years.

“The club is in a stronger position than when I returned in 2019,” he said recently and it’s hard to argue against that.

Preston and Everton too were in much better shape when he left them than on arrival, the latter a decade-long love affair that first established him as a top-flight coach of genuine substance. 

From Goodison came a high-profile move to Manchester United on Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement and regrettably it was at this juncture when his reputation took a nose-dive. 

His ill-fated spell at Old Trafford lasted only ten months though compensation came in the form of a £5m pay-off. There followed subsequent stints with Real Sociedad and Sunderland, both as troublesome as the other. 

So, a chequered managerial career all told, but still there will be no shortage of takers for Moyes in the coming months, his status as a top-class coach capable of turning a club’s fortunes around long secured.

Speaking of fortunes, it’s a journey that has also made David Moyes an extremely wealthy man. 

How Much Is David Moyes Worth?

Moyes’ earnings from his playing career will have been dwarfed by his managerial income.

Footballers’ wages were much smaller in the 1980s and 1990s compared to the 2020s and he spent the majority of his career at unglamourous clubs including Dunfermline Athletic and Shrewsbury Town.

At Preston too, his first managerial gig, it is hard to imagine his pay-check raising the eyebrows of anyone who saw it. This is of course all relative, and even at this early mark Moyes will have been earning a decent wage compared to many outside of the game.

At Everton though he made the jump to the big league, not only in the standard of football being played but in the club’s wage structure. 

In transforming the Toffees from habitual relegation candidates to regularly featuring among the favourites in the football betting to finish top six, he will have been handsomely rewarded.

Reportedly, in his final season before switching his allegiance to the Red Devils, Moyes was the highest earning individual at the club, his salary approaching £4m per year.

It was at Manchester United however where his wealth increased many times over, first courtesy of a bumper inducement package, then a salary that far exceeded what Everton could offer. 

Including his pay-off it has been estimated that Moyes earned north of £7m for ten months of under-achievement at Old Trafford. Nice work if you can get it. 

In more recent years, his income has reverted back to Everton levels though his £4m a year at West Ham did come attached with £1m in bonuses should certain criteria be met. 

As noted above, in most seasons they were.

David Moyes may not be one of the highest paid football managers around when we consider the game’s behemoths, such as Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.

But all the same, after spending the best part of two decades managing Premier League clubs, he has a substantial net worth in the region of £18m.

Yes. David Moyes is married to Pamela. It has been reported that the couple met during Moyes’ time as a player with Celtic in the 1980s.

Pamela and David have a daughter and a son together. While managerial jobs have forced David to move around, the couple have lived in Preston for a long time.

David Moyes’ daughter is called Lauren. She was born in 1996.

Lauren Moyes was the subject of rumours linking her with former Manchester United player Wilfried Zaha a few years’ ago, that was until the winger issued a firm denial on his Twitter account, calling the gossip ‘silly’.

The Galatasaray star also said, “I’ve never met or even dated David Moyes’ daughter, so it isn’t the cause for my absence from games.”

Lauren largely steers clear of social media, last posting on Twitter eight years ago.

In 2006, Moyes bought Haighton House in Grimsargh, close to Preston for £3.8 million. Set in 76 acres of land, the mansion includes tennis courts and a sunken swimming pool.

In 2019 the property was sold for £4.3m to a wealthy Bhailok family. 

For much of his spell at West Ham, he resided in a rented East London flat, travelling back to his family’s new residence in Lytham St Annes as often as possible.

With his time in the capital soon to end he will no doubt be looking forward to enjoying some sea air, surrounded by family and living nearby to fellow Scots Alan Hansen and Sir Kenny Dalglish. 

David Moyes Teams Managed

David Moyes has managed Preston, Everton, Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham.

His Everton stint was the longest, amounting to 500-plus matches in charge of the club as they climbed the league, in 2005 securing a precious top four spot. 

As stated, his brief time at Old Trafford proved to be disastrous though with a 52% win percentage perhaps hindsight should be kinder towards it. 

A move abroad to Real Sociedad was equally disappointing. Very few European football tips had the White-and-Blues down to challenge Barcelona or Real Madrid during his time in Spain but a succession of defeats soon tested the short patience of the owners.

An equally problematic 40 matches in charge of Sunderland led to Moyes becoming associated with failure, that was until a brief spell at West Ham saw him revive his reputation.

Arriving in fire-fighter mode he pulled the Hammers away from the bottom three with games to spare. 

Annoyed at not being offered a permanent contract all was forgiven 18 months later when the club sought out his services once again and after being afforded time to forge his own team Moyes will leave this summer with largely fond memories. 

In November 2021, he celebrated 1000 games as a professional manager, becoming only the 35th gaffer to reach this impressive landmark.
