Football Predictions Thursday

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United

A real mouth-watering clash this one, as Manchester United will make the trip south on Thursday evening to face Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup quarter-final stage. – Check out our latest EFL Cup odds.

Tottenham Hotspur put an end to their five game winless run on Sunday and they did it in style, Spurs found themselves going in at the break 5-0 up away to Southampton. There’s been a lot of debate around Spurs in recent years and whether or not they’d prefer a piece of silverware over finishing in the top four. Ange Postecoglou stated in a post-match interview that he always wins a trophy in his second season, having not won a trophy since 2008, the Tottenham faithful will be hoping that he’s right and could secure a spot in the league cup semi-final for the first time since the 2021/2022 campaign, success in this competition could be massive for Spurs. 

Following recent disappointing results in the Premier League, Ruben Amorim’s side had faced quite a lot of criticism. The new Manchester United boss made a huge call ahead of their short trip across the city on Sunday, he completely left out Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho for the visit to the Etihad stating he “pays attention to everything”. In all honesty, both sides didn’t offer much but United didn’t give up and were repaid for their efforts with two late goals to secure a derby day victory, thanks to an Amad inspired performance. This is another tough test for the Red Devils but it’s also a great opportunity to build on that victory and progress into the next round, with Amorim hoping to get some early silverware under his belt. 

Tottenham have already beaten Manchester United this season, albeit at Old Trafford whilst Erik ten Hag was still in charge. I think we can expect goals in this one as Spurs have seen eight of their last ten home games produce both teams to score, whilst United have produced the same in six of their last eight away games.

Manchester United have a good record on this ground, they’ve lost just once here in their six visits, with wins in two of those.

Football Predictions Friday

Bayern Munich v RB Leipzig

Friday night entertainment comes from the Bundesliga, as Bayern Munich welcome RB Leipzig to the Allianz with just six points separating the two sides. – Check out our Bundesliga odds.

Bayern Munich will be looking to bounce back on Friday night after suffering their first defeat of the season away to Mainz. Vincent Kompany’s side remain four points clear at the summit but the pressure is slowly mounting, with Bayer Leverkusen regaining form in the hope of defending their title. A victory here would put them six points ahead of RB Leipzig but it’s fine margins, another defeat for the Bavarians and its game on in terms of the title challenge.

Having not won in six games on the bounce, December has been a much better month for Marco Rose’s side, they’ve won three of their four games so far and only lost narrowly to Aston Villa in the Champions League. However, given they are on their travels again, that might concern a few of the RB Leipzig fans, they’ve lost four of their last five away games in all competitions, not ideal when travelling to a ground where your opponents haven’t lost all season in the league. With that said, RBL have won two of their last three in Munich.

We should be in for a few goals in this one, eight of the last ten meetings between the two sides have seen both teams hit the back of the net. 

Despite a recent wobble, I think we’ll see Bayern Munich bounce back here and extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga.

Football Predictions Saturday

Aston Villa v Manchester City

A troubled Manchester City side will make the trip to Villa Park on Saturday afternoon to face Aston Villa in the Premier League. – Check out our Premier League odds.

It’s been an inconsistent campaign so far for Aston Villa, Unai Emery’s side have dipped in and out of form and having put a stop to their eight-game winless run with three wins on the bounce, they suffered their fifth league defeat away to Nottingham Forest despite leading with just four minutes left to play. The defeat to Forest leaves Villa outside of the top six but only on goal difference, a victory here would move Emery’s team above Man City and into fifth, they’ll be hoping to replicate their performance when the two sides met back in December last year, Villa won that game 1-0 with Man City producing just two shots all game, unheard of back then.

The expression “it never rains it pours” comes to mind when you think of Manchester City right now, Pep Guardiola’s side were 1-0 up against their rivals Manchester United on with just minutes to go before the Red Devils piled more misery on their neighbours with a 2-1 victory, that’s now just one win in their last ten games for City, remarkable. It’s always risky to rule Man City out of the title race but the way things are going so far and being nine points behind Liverpool having played a game more, it’s looking extremely unlikely they’ll make it five in a row.

Tough one to call this because City have a really good record away to Aston Villa, having won six of their last nine visits here but they’ve failed in their last two, I’m going to back the draw in this one but fully expecting both teams to find the net, especially given the chances that Pep’s team offer up to their opponents. Villa have lost just one of their eight league games so far on home soil, winning four and drawing three in the process, I’ll back the 2-2 scoreline at Villa Park.

West Ham United v Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton will make the trip to East London on Saturday to face West Ham United in the Premier League. – Check out our Premier League odds.

West Ham will feel frustrated following their 1-1 draw on Monday evening away to Bournemouth, the Hammers had taken a late lead through a Lucas Paqueta penalty and looked to be on their way to securing three points on the road for just the third time this season, that was until conceding just three minutes later and leaving the south coast with a single point. However, the Irons return back to home soil where they’ve won three of their last five games, they can make it three games unbeaten in a row for the first time since March 2024.

December hasn’t been full of joy for Brighton, in fact it’s been a miserable month so far. Having lost 3-1 to Fulham, dropping two points at Leicester following a late collapse and then beaten by their rivals Crystal Palace in front of their own fans, Fabian Hurzeler will be hoping his side can show some character to bounce back from this poor run of form. The Seagulls have dropped to ninth place but given how congested the league table is after sixteen games, a victory here could see them move into fifth depending on results elsewhere. 

We should be treated to goals from these two, both sides have seen 75% of their home/away games produce both teams to score, whilst four of the last six meetings here between the two have seen the same. Here you can find all our latest Premier League tips.

I’m going to back the draw in this one, five of the last six here between the two sides have ended in a stalemate, expecting more of the same.
