Steve Mullington gives his best horse betting tips for Saturday, with a NAP, Next Best and a Longshot at Haydock...

5.00 Haydock – Cambria Legend (NAP)

In recent years nobody has ridden Haydock better than Richard Kingscote which leads me to put up his mount Cambria Legend as my NAP of the day.

No longer with Tom Dascombe, Kingscote is riding for James Fanshawe in this 1m2f contest and I can see him using all his course knowledge to get a win out of this three-year-old.

Cambria Legend ran a nice race at York last month in his first handicap and looks sure to come on for the run.

Danger: Minstrel Knight

3.50 Haydock – Pogo (NB)

I really hope I don’t get too much stick for picking Pogo here but I really do think that the elder statesman of the field can get the job done at Haydock Park.

A previous course and distance scorer, the eight-year-old has got Richard Kingscote aboard which further enhances his chance. The ground will be ideal for him and he had a nice prep run a fortnight ago at Sandown Park.

Drawn in stall one, I can see this eight-time winner making a real fist of it in this seven furlong Listed Trophy.

Danger: Poet Master

3.15 Haydock – Nibiru (E/W Longshot)

Trainer Tony Martin loves to pull off a coup and his horse Nibiru looks rather interesting in Haydock’s feature race on Saturday – the Swinton Handicap Hurdle.

Owned by John Breslin, Nibiru had what I thought was an excellent warm up for this UK trip when he won at Dundalk on Feb 23rd and plans must have been drawn up shortly afterwards to have a crack at Haydock and a return to hurdles.

Jockey Daniel King takes 3lbs off the 127-rated hurdlers back and they can go well at an attractive each-way price in our horse racing betting.

Danger: Teddy Blue

Steve Mullington gives his best horse racing tips for Sunday, with a NAP, Next Best and a Longshot at Longchamp and Newcastle...

2.50 Longchamp – Romantic Style (NAP)

Sunday sees the French 1000 & 2000 Guineas take place at ParisLongchamp and the fillies version of the race – the one mile Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, can go the way of the Godolphin-owned Romantic Style for Charlie Appleby.

Romantic Style was the only supplementary entry for the Pouliches at the declaration stage and connections must be confident that the winner of the Prix Imprudence at Deauville last month can be a leading contender in this Group 1 contest for the fillies.

The form of the Deauville race has certainly been franked with the runner-up Ramatuelle and third-placed Tamfana going on to finish third and fourth in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket last Sunday.

Danger: Tulipa Chope

3.30 Longchamp – Beauvatier (NB)

The colts race - the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, is once again wide open but I am siding with the Yann Barberot-trained Beauvatier to just edge out the victory.

Barberot won this race 12 months ago with the impressive American Flag and he was more than happy with Beauvatier’s performance in the Prix de Fontainebleau where he was just denied by Ramadan who reopposes today.

The trainer says his Lope De Vega-colt has come on a bundle for the run and can turn the form with Ramadan around.

Danger: Ramadan

7.00 Newcastle – Strike Red (E/W Longshot)

Sunday racing draws to a close in the UK with a six furlong Class 2 Handicap and Richard Fahey can saddle the winner of the lucky last.

A course and distance winner here in 2021, we last saw Strike Red on the racecourse last July when he went over to Ireland to lift the valuable Scurry Handicap.

I’ll be highly surprised if he’s missed in our horse racing betting, but after a 295-day break he may just end up being sent off a nice price for each-way betting purposes.

Danger: Mums Tipple
