Irish jockey Oisin Murphy has won the Flat Jockeys Championship four times and has won two British Classics.

He was Champion Apprentice jockey in 2014, and has subsequently won the senior Champion Jockey title in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2024.

Born in 1995, Murphy grew up in Killarney and learned how to ride ponies from the age of four. He competed quite successfully in show jumping and horses were his passion from a young age.

Murphy has been the retained rider for Qatar Racing since 2016, gaining his first group success aboard Hot Streak in the Temple Stakes at Haydock in 2014, and his first Classic aboard Kameko in the 2020 edition of 2000 Guineas.

His first Group 1 winner came aboard Aclaim in the Prix de la Forêt in 2017 and he has since recorded another 30 plus, including four aboard fans betting favourite Roaring Lion.

How Much Is Oisin Murphy Worth?

Murphy, the reigning champion jockey on the Flat, was recently fined £70,000 at Reading magistrates court after pleading guilty to a drink driving charge following a crash on 27 April.

Judge Goozee based his penalty on reported “net winnings” by Murphy of £250,000 in 2024, and a salary, made from his riding fees – of £1,250 per week. This was all financial information that came to the fore, in the light of his court case.

The prominent Irish jockey, is estimated to have a net worth of approximately £2.8 million, which has come down various avenues, including race winnings, riding fees, and sponsorship agreements.

Personal Life

Oisin’s partner during the highs and lows of his career has been Lizzy, the daughter of famous racehorse owner Bjorn Nielsen.

Despite four champion jockey crowns, alcohol addiction has been lurking in the background, and several misdemeanours have almost derailed his racing career.

Oisin’s personal struggles are public knowledge, but he continues to use the help of his support network to work through the situation.
